Dental Implants Cape Town

Dental implants are a fixed solution to missing teeth.

A synthetic root is fused to the jaw. Once the root has healed and settled, a synthetic, natural looking tooth is applied to the root – leaving you with a strong, sturdy replacement that looks and functions like a healthy, natural tooth.

With a dentally diverse skillset and the latest advancements in technology, Ratan and Singh are able to place and restore dental implants from the comfort of their practice. If you're looking for an all-round solution for missing teeth, contact Ratan and Singh dental today.

What Are Dental Implants

Dental Implants are titanium or ceramic fixtures/ screw type medical structures which are placed in human jaw bones to replace the roots of teeth. The crowns or the actual tooth is then screwed onto the implant once it has fused to the bone (osseointegration).

How much do dental implants cost in Cape Town, South Africa

Dental Implants in Cape Town can cost between R 20 000 – R 200 000. The costs associated with implants can vary due to a number of factors:

  1. Brand of implant and quality guarantee
  2. The number of teeth being replaced. There's a common misconception that you require the same amount of implants to replace the number of teeth missing. This is incorrect. If a patient is missing 3 or 4 teeth, often we place just 2 implants and bridge the gap with 4 teeth screwed onto 2 implants. This saves on the additional cost of implants.
  3. Is bone grafting needed? Sometimes patients require augmentation of bone to areas that have a deficiency in bone and thus there are additional costs involved, such as bone materials for grafting.
  4. Laboratory fees. Once implants are healed/integrated, it's time to make teeth to attach to the implants. Once the implant positions are recorded digitally or with moulds of your mouth, the lab then needs to make the ceramic teeth for your implants.
  5. Every case is different and its generally advised to consult a dental implantology's for a quote that is tailor made for you.

How Do Dental Implants Work

At our boutique dental practice we are big on planning. Our dental implant consults involve thorough examination and planning. Planning is the most important part of this form of treatment.

So what are we planning? We are assessing how much bone height and width you have for implants, what gum quality you have, how many teeth are needed, your occlusion (how your teeth come together), your habits (smoking, grinding), position of implants, how many implants you need and most importantly, which type of teeth most suite your clinical situation as well as your pocket.

Once we have all of the above information, we digitally plan the implants on our dental implant surgery software and fabricate a surgical guide. We use the guide to assist the surgery in order to make sure that the procedure goes as safely and efficiently as possible. After 3-6 months of healing  we then reaccess those implants to begin the process of shaping the gum and fabricating teeth to be screwed down on to the healed implants. In some cases, an implant is placed at the time of removal of teeth. This is known as an immediate implant and should be discussed with your clinician.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

Dental implants are long term solutions for tooth loss. It is however important to note that if one has lost a tooth it is just as easy to lose an implant. Implants need to be looked after like teeth. You must maintain good oral hygiene practices and regular dental check ups in order to have your dentist assess the health of the implant. This is even more so for patients with diabetes and smokers. Implants can last a lifetime, but there is no guarantee. optimal oral health and patient compliance are very important factors.

How Long Is The Dental Recovery Process?

Recovery varies from person to person and is directly correlated to the type of procedure being done. A patient having a single implant without bone grafting may recover much faster than someone who is having an entire arch of 6 implants and grafting.
